Opinion

I think "Time is precious" is a good opinion to have, because it makes you really want to get the most out of your life. The best advice I have been given is simple, but is to "not waste time, do something amazing everyday". A teacher told me this as I left high school 4 years ago, but it still helps to motivate me when I'm wasting my time being lazy.

Quotes

As it is a quote that started this opinion for me that time is precious, I decided to look at more quotes, as well as songs, which feature that opinion that time is precious.

-"Dont waste time, or time will waste you" Muse - Knights of Cydonia

-"Time stops for no one, and moves on unaware, its easy not to notice, its easy not to care" Lindsay Lohan - Very Last Moment in Time

-"We are always waiting for our lives to begin, figuring we will be someone else someday; but all we have is now, so don't run from it" Mouth (One Tree Hill - The Same Deep Water As You)

- Time is precious, decide how you will spend it
- Time is money
- All good things must come to an end
- For every minute spent in organizing, an hour is earned
- Time is free, but it's priceless. You can't own it, but you can use it. You can't keep it, but you can spend it. Once you've lost it you can never get it back
- The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once
- Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking.
- You can't change the past, but you can ruin the present by worrying about the future
- Don’t count every hour in the day, make every hour in the day count
- Yesterday is a canceled check; tomorrow is a promissory note; today is the only cash you have - so spend it wisely
- We all have our time machines. Some take us back, they're called memories. Some take us forward, they're called dreams
- Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money, but you cannot get more time
- We don't have an eternity to realize our dreams, only the time we are here
- Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity
- Lost time is never found again
- Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein
- They say that time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself
- Time is like a handful of sand- the tighter you grasp it, the faster it runs through your fingers
- Many of the things you can count, don't count. Many of the things you can't count, really count.
- It is never too late to be what you might have been
- What may be done at any time will be done at no time
- Say what you want to say when you have the feeling and the chance. My greatest regrets are the things I did not do, the opportunities missed and the things unsaid
- Time you enjoyed wasting is not wasted time
- We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand - and melting like a snowflake
- We always have time enough if we will but use it right
- The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time
- There'll be two dates on your tombstone, but all that matters is that little dash in between them
- Be wise in the use of time. The question in life is not "how much time do we have?" The question is "what shall we do with it?"
- Time flies. Its up to you to be the navigator
- When we are doing what we love, we don't care about time. For at least at that moment, time doesn't exist and we are truly free
- You may delay, but time will not
- Your greatest resource is your time
- Many of us spend half our time wishing for things we could have if we didn't spend half our time wishing
- Never let yesterday use up today
- One problem with gazing too frequently into the past is that we may turn around to find the future has run out on us
- One realises the full importance of time when their is little left of it
- In truth, people can generally make time for what they choose to do; it is not really the time but the will that is lacking
- Time is at once the most valuable and the most perishable of our possessions
- Time is like money, the less of it we have to spare, the further we make it go

Passing time has always interested me, and these are some images from a GCSE fine art project. This project was inspired by Claude Monet, who often painted the same scene at different times in the day or in different seasons.

This story from motivateus.com shows how time is money, but time is more precious that money:

Precious Time

With a timid voice and idolizing eyes, the little boy greeted his father as he returned from work,"Daddy, how much do you make an hour?"
Greatly surprised, but giving his boy a glaring look, the father said, "Look, son, not even your mother knows that. Don't bother me now, I'm tired."
"But Daddy, just tell me please! How much do you make an hour, " the boy insisted.
The father, finally giving up, replied: "Twenty dollars per hour."
"Okay, Daddy? Could you loan me ten dollars?" the boy asked.
Showing his restlessness and positively disturbed, the father yelled, "So that was the reason you asked how much I earn, right? Go to sleep and don't bother me anymore!"
It was already dark and the father was meditating on what he said and was feeling guilty? Maybe he thought, his son wanted to buy something.
Finally, trying to ease his mind, the father went to his son's room. "Are you asleep, son?" asked the father.
"No, Daddy. Why?" replied the boy, partially asleep.
"Here's the money you asked for earlier," the father said.
"Thanks, Daddy!" rejoiced the son, while putting his hand under his pillow and removing some money. "Now I have enough!! Now I have twenty dollars!" the boy said to his father, who was gazing at his son, confused at what his son had just said.
"Daddy, could you sell me one hour of your time?"
Time is too precious to spend it all on work! Appreciate your love ones and don't take them for granted.

What others think about this opinion

Questionnaire
How effected are you by 'inspiring' quotes such as "time is precious"? Very [1] A little [3] Not at all [6]
Do you feel you use your own time effectively? Yes [6] No [4]
Would you like to be motivated to use your time more effectively? Yes [6] No [4]

Analysing Results
People don't really seem to find these quotes inspiring, as most commented that they think they are nonsense. It is true that a lot of the quotes are irrelevant and not really inspiring, as the compile the list above I had to search through many more quotes which I didn't think were motivating. Despite more people saying that they felt they used their own time effectively than not doing so, the majority of people would be interested in being motivated to use their own time even more effectively. These results don't really prove that my opinion is a good one to have, but they do show that there is an audience that would like to be motivated.
